absent of any response, i’ve been considering the meaning of the word selfish on my own
a selfless person is literally self + less, someone who cares so little about their own needs that the desires of others outweigh that of their own. in other words their self is “lesser than” others.
so to be selfish is to literally be “more of a self”, to have a presence with weight rather than an empty space waiting to be filled, an entity that influences and is influenced by the world, a kind of gravitas
so, by telling you to be more selfish, were they telling you to put your own finger on the scales for once? or were they just saying to accept the times when the scales already tipped in your direction of their own volition?
